Amaryllis Tulips Lilies
Bouquet for the City. Gypsum Triptych, each panel measures 17 x 44 x 4 inches.
In every culture fruit, flowers, and plants have specific or symbolic meanings. As symbols of living wholeness, they are a nonverbal language that we often use when words fail us.
Mudras, are another non verbal language. Ritualized, symbolic hand gestures, most often associated with spirituality, mudras are also found in every culture.
In the Offering series, Witness, Sermon, Karuna, I combine these nonverbal languages to explore the bouquets created by the interaction of gesture and flowers.
I love watching people use their hands to express themselves. I believe our first language is our body. That’s how we communicate as children, when we are without a shared language, or when we are overcome by emotion. Using a hand as symbol in these reliefs allows its expression to be very specific and universal at the same time.

Love Letter
Bronze relief, 38 x 7 inches, Limited edition of 15.
Wreaths, garlands and cornucopias are all symbols of living wholeness. They remind us of Nature’s abundance, renewal, and of our connection to the land.
Love Letter is my interpretation of this classical tradition but written in bronze instead of words. Love Letter is a thank you for the abundance and sharing of good food that sustains and nourishes us all.
A small mouse, hidden on the wreath, is a reminder that we are not alone in nature,
but share it with all creatures. Can you find the mouse?
